MARE progress presented to Association of Dutch River Municipalities
The VNR or Association of Dutch River Municipalities serves as a platform on Flood Risk
Management issues for local policy makers like aldermen and majors of municipalities along main
rivers..
Dordrecht presented its multiple level safety strategy the task groups Rhine River (30
mayors/aldermen from different municipalities) and Maas River (for another 30 mayors/aldermen).
The presentations were a starting point for lively debates on the legal aspects, especially shifting
tasks and responsibilities for municipalities. A follow up meeting will be organized to identify the
opinions and develop a shared vision.
